The multi-actor project Hort2thefuture will address 3 main sustainability problems in horticulture: 1) continued reliance on peat growing media and drawbacks of current peat alternatives, 2) inefficient or inappropriate use of agricultural inputs and 3) suboptimal soil health due to unsustainable management practices. In addition, the aim is to stimulate changes in farmers’ behavior through collaboration and communication with agricultural producers, so that they adopt more sustainable practices in horticulture.
The project comprises 28 research, supplier, retail, grower, communication, training and stakeholder partners from 12 European countries.
EUTA is responsible for designing and producing Hort2thefuture online knowledge exchange platform, identity, and templates; providing training videos and materials for professional growers and amateur gardeners (WP7). Also, EUTA takes part in the organisation of Pilot sites with professional growers (WP6). Finally, our team leader Prof. Quarrie coordinates WP5: Innovation Accelerator for Improving Soil Structure and Mitigating Soil Compaction
